1936 Norton Model 18 For Sale

SOLD!  By the end of 1922 the first OHV model Norton was brought out, the 490 cc Model 18. At its introduction it got the factory code word of “Speedy”, which certainly showed some foresight: speeds up to 100 mph were attainable with carefully tuned engines. In the course of 1923 a number of speed events were won, but in 1924 the Model 18 really showed what it was capable of. In June Alec Bennett won the senior TT on a model 18 with an average speed of 61.64 mph; the sidecar TT was won by George Tucker on a 588 cc version of the model. Both the French and Belgian GPs were won, and Bert Denley captured the coveted British One Hour Record at 87.07 mph.

This example was acquired from a Canadian collector who had purchased fresh from a restoration in the UK. It’s been on display in the current owner’s climate-controlled facility since then and as the photos suggest, it’s a beautiful example..

1937 BSA EMPIRE STAR FOR SALE

The machine is in fabulous condition having been restored to a very high standard by the previous owner almost 15 years ago. Having said that - the inside of the fuel tank could use a re-coat. The only deviation from standard trim on this one is the previous owner’s fitment of a non-standard, heavy duty spring for the front forks (he was a pretty heavy guy and rode the machine).

1950 BSA Gold Star For Sale

Beloved of cafe racers, the BSA Goldie street racer would easily achieve the magic ton on the local bypass, the 500cc single-cylinder motor resulting in a flat-on-the-tank top speed of 110mph. The Gold Star actually first appeared in 350cc form in 1948, the first 500cc model thumping onto the market a year later and produced in the Birmingham Small Heath works until 1963. 

This 1950 model was fully restored by noted Canadian classics expert Tim Bardsley prior to being acquired by the current owner.  History can be traced back to its initial purchase from Walter Kohl in NY State and the machine is in stunning condition.

1936 Douglas “Aero” 596cc Side Valve Flat Twin For Sale

Douglas’s continuing financial difficulties resulted in the Bristol concern being acquired by the British Aircraft Company in 1935 and reformed as Aero Engines Ltd.  Most of the motorcycle tooling was sold off and production of the predominantly flat-twin-powered range was continued by London-based dealers Pride & Clarke Ltd using the existing stock of parts, all of these models being prefixed ‘Aero’, regardless of engine capacity.

1938 Rudge 500 Special For Sale

Rudge-Whitworth experimented with a variety of valve arrangements across a range of 250, 350 and 500cc models, and by the mid-1930s had standardized with the 500 Special employing a parallel 4-valve head layout and the Ulster a parallel/semi-radial combination. It should be noted that despite its name the Special was the touring 500; a compact machine with a willing engine and powerful linked brakes. A compact machine with a willing engine and powerful linked brakes, the 500 Special is a delight to ride and copes easily with present-day traffic conditions.

1938 Ariel 995cc Square Four Model 4G For Sale

Designed by Edward Turner, creator of the legendary Triumph Speed Twin, the first Ariel Square Four was shown at the Olympia Motorcycle Show in 1930. Conceived as an overhead-camshaft 500, the model grew to 601cc before a total redesign saw it emerge as the Model 4G, with 995cc overhead-valve engine.

This particular machine underwent a complete restoration by noted Canadian expert Tim Bardsley of Mostly British Motorcycles Company and is a stunning example. The bike is located in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada region.

1951 Ariel 998cc Square Four For Sale

I fell in love with this bike while I was photographing it on an Indian Summer afternoon.  The setting – dappled sunlight through trees rich with the colors of fall seemed to give this survivor an almost majestic presence in the woodlot.  It’s complete – and waiting for someone to breathe a second life into it.

1972 Triumph T150V Trident For Sale

A true “muscle bike” of the 70’s, there may have been machines that were faster and that handled better, but none could match the sensory thrill of running a T150 hard through the gears.  While still maintaining the classic Triumph silhouette, the T150V was a different beast altogether.

And this completely original example looks just like it probably would have in late 1973.  It shows very little patina or wear and but for the left side cover, is a machine that’s just too clean and original for restoration.  It's an excellent runner; still sporting Dunlop K81s and with only 2,876 ORIGINAL miles on the clock…

1934 Scott Isle of Man TT Replica For Sale

The post-World War I period saw the growing dominance of the four-stroke block Scott’s pre-war success at the Isle of Man TT; however, Scott did win the manufacturer’s prize in 1922 for the Squirrel (aka the flying Squirrel). In 1928, the Squirrel secured a well-earned third place, which justified producing a TT replica model for the 1929 range. Offering the superior rigidity of the duplex frame while also incorporating the TT full-frame fuel tank, the company’s telescopic forks and additional bracing for strength, the TT replica is and remains a highly capable piece of engineering. Produced until 1950, Alfred Scott’s yowling two-stroke is considered a true and formidable collector’s piece.

This particular 1934 TT Replica was restored by Andrew Bosson of Columbus, Ontario. Bosson; a patternmaker by trade, was able to faithfully replicate many of the components that were missing from the machine - the horn, engine shield, battery holder and many more unique parts including the front kickstand. The tapered roller wheel bearings were a size that’s no longer available so Bosson modified modern bearings and races to fit. The nickel-plated radiator is a hand made new unit that is an exact duplicate of the original and works perfectly.  As part of the restoration, the crank, the cylinder, piston etc were sent over to a Scott expert in England where they were rebuilt with remanufactured parts.  Bosson put over 1,800km on the completed machine before it was acquired by the current owner who logged under 100km before decommissioning the bike for display in a climate-controlled facility.  You can view a detailed, hi-resolution photoset of the machine HERE and a brief video of the bike HERE
